Police reported they were notified by a individual who discovered a car in Hanau covered with red-colored fluid

Roughly fifty cars have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.

Police state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.

The liquid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.

Police then discovered numerous other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement state preliminary tests indicate the fluid was likely human blood.

"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in relation with the event," they commented.

Local authorities announced they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for details.

A senior official said the vandalism rendered him stunned and required to be solved rapidly.

"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on online, referring to the death of nine victims by a assailant focusing on people of migrant background in February 2020.
